I want a wife, by Judy Brady, is trying to
portraying how ridiculous it would sound if a woman were to say they wanted a
wife for the reasons that many men do.
She lists a series of activities and chores that most men expect a wife
to complete, making it sound as if they want a slave rather than a life time
partner. At the end of the article Brady
states, “My God, who wouldn’t want a wife.” To me this was both humorous and
sad. However, it makes sense, after all
who wouldn’t want someone they could task to do all the chores, to take care of
all the responsibilities, and someone to blame for everything that goes
wrong. Ever since slavery came into existence
men have paid very high prices to ensure an easier life for themselves and
their loved ones. It is wrong to say the
least, but unfortunately it is the sad reality of social gender
stereotypes.
Men-It’s in their nature, by Christina Hoff Sommers, writes about how society today
has been trying, as a majority, to eliminate what they believe to be harmful
violent behavior in young men. Sommers, offers
research and examples to demonstrate how “America’s schools, universities,
government agencies, and major women’s groups” are attempting to emasculate the
very nature that all societies were built upon
I
will be analyzing Men-It’s in their
Nature, further in my analysis essay.
. Without the traits rooted deep inside the
nature of not only men but mankind the eras of hunting/gathering, agriculture
and industrial ages would not have existed.
The first article is more of an idea based on
stereotypes that can be analyzed, but it is easier to analyze an article you
can find references and research on.
I really like how you summarized I Want a Wife by Judy Brady. If I hadn't ready the essay, just by reading your summary I believe I could fully understand what it was about.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like how you pointed out the second essay was less of an opinion and had things you could actually research in.

Joseph you did a great job explaining each article. Good luck on your analysis essay!
ReplyDeleteYour first summary had a little personal bias woven in there, so be careful! Summaries are entirely non-biased.
