Analysis Summary Blog

I want a wife, by Judy Brady, is trying to portraying how ridiculous it would sound if a woman were to say they wanted a wife for the reasons that many men do.  She lists a series of activities and chores that most men expect a wife to complete, making it sound as if they want a slave rather than a life time partner.  At the end of the article Brady states, “My God, who wouldn’t want a wife.” To me this was both humorous and sad.  However, it makes sense, after all who wouldn’t want someone they could task to do all the chores, to take care of all the responsibilities, and someone to blame for everything that goes wrong.  Ever since slavery came into existence men have paid very high prices to ensure an easier life for themselves and their loved ones.  It is wrong to say the least, but unfortunately it is the sad reality of social gender stereotypes.

Men-It’s in their nature, by Christina Hoff Sommers, writes about how society today has been trying, as a majority, to eliminate what they believe to be harmful violent behavior in young men.  Sommers, offers research and examples to demonstrate how “America’s schools, universities, government agencies, and major women’s groups” are attempting to emasculate the very nature that all societies were built upon
I will be analyzing Men-It’s in their Nature, further in my analysis essay.  .  Without the traits rooted deep inside the nature of not only men but mankind the eras of hunting/gathering, agriculture and industrial ages would not have existed.     The first article is more of an idea based on stereotypes that can be analyzed, but it is easier to analyze an article you can find references and research on.

Destroyed Review Blog 1
The article Destroyed, by Peter F. Martin, is about the use of performance enhancing drugs within professional sports. The author feels that using performance enhancing drugs or any “Extra human objects” (Martin) ruins the purity of the sport. He uses examples from the ancient Olympians to support his views against artificial enhancers.
Paragraph ten of Destroyed talks about how performance enhancers have ruined not only the sport that were passed down from the Greeks, but also the physical wellbeing of the athletes themselves.
Martin states that fans of athletes have made a sport out of guessing who is using drugs to enhance their performance and who is not because the use of these drugs has crept into every sport.  I thought that this statement was funny and sad at the same time.  One because it is so ridiculous that people bet on the fate of a player and two because it is sad that fans have lost their faith in their athletic heroes.  To me this just shows how physical enhancers have become another part of sports as we know it today.  It is conceivable that one day it will become the norm for every athlete to enhance themselves physically in one way or another.  Besides the lasting effects on the health of the athletes themselves, I personally find nothing wrong with wanting to enhance yourself to be the best you can.  However, everyone should have an equal opportunity to enhance themselves.
